Did you know Wyland has been painting whales and marine life murals around the world since the 1980’s?

Returning from Europe, Wyland began painting two murals for Sea World in San Diego. Forbidden Reef features marine life of Southern California, such as bat rays, eels, garibaldi and other fish of the Pacific.

The exhibit begins with a journey into the ocean realm leading into caverns of natural habitats for these marine creatures.

“Painting the mural was the easy part, and all that was left was to sign my name,” Wyland recalls. “I was joking with the media and stated, ‘I hope I spelled my name right.’ Someone from the audience pointed out that I had, in fact, left out a letter. All I can say is that I tried to buy all the film that was shot that day.”
