EASY PIZZA HACK by @fitterbodyplan - I absolutely love pizza. 🍕 That is a fact. But I don't eat it all that often because it takes up a good chunk of my day's calorie allowance and I tend to prefer to eat in smaller meals throughout the day. - But if you can make a few swaps here and there to make it fit in to your day more easily, why the hell not! - My favourite pizza at home has always been a classic Pizza Express margherita and that probably won't change. The recommended portion size is half a pizza which comes in at 312 calories....but seriously.... who on Earth has just half a pizza?! - Anyway today I learned of these cauli pizzas from @nodoughpizzaco in Sainsbury's and I am waiting to hunt them down at my local one. I haven't tried them yet but I have read a couple of reviews which seem promising. - I have tried making cauli pizza at home and it has always looked good until I try to take it off the baking try when it goes from cauli pizza to cheesy, saucy cauli mash 😶. - And the stats look good. 410 calories for the whole thing (compared to 624), high in protein, and count as 1 of your 5 a day. And at £4, cheaper than my normal one. - Literally the *only* thing I would say is to remember that calories DO count, so even though it is a vegetable base, there are still calories in the food so don't forget to count that. Each superset is supposed to be done without breaks, so once finished with first exercise, go straight to second. The first exercise is the hamstring curl using an Ab Dolly @ab.dolly (you can use a Swiss ball for this as well). The second exercise is your standard hip thrust, done at medium weight for about 15 reps. The key here is muscle to mind connection, you have to contract your glutes fully on the hip thrusts. Training Frequency 💪In my experience frequency is an often overlooked or misunderstood principle of resistance training. ⬇️ I'm talking from personal experience too. I've been that guy who trains Chest on a Monday, Back on Tuesday, Legs on Wednesday etc, 1 hour-plus sessions with dozens of sets on one body part; what we call a high volume, low frequency programme. This way of training can yield great results with the right structure and nutrition to back it up. It also takes TIME, and time is one thing so many of us claim to have so little of. SO...what if you change the approach? Rather than taking an hour out every day to complete 20+ sets in one go and then waiting 7 days to do the same body part again, complete 4 sets of a given exercise on 5 days for example. I get you're not going to travel to a gym to do only 4 sets of an exercise; this type of training lends itself to exercises you can complete at home with little or no equipment i.e Press ups, pull ups or planking etc. ⬇️ Psychologically it's much easier to commit to 5-10 minutes here and there. Before work, after work, during lunch. Press ups in the morning, pull ups when you get home. It's much more managable. Apply the same principle of progression each week and you can see great results. NEAT. ⬇️ Yes it's a pretty neat picture but I'm talking about a different type of NEAT. ⬇️ None Exercise Activity Thermogenisis. NEAT. ⬇️ In Layman's terms - calories burned through every day activity outside of your exercise/training sessions. When you calculate how much of your week is spent training/exercising the % is going to be tiny. If you train for 1 hour 5 times per week that's still less than 3%. ⬇️ NEAT is particulary important if fat loss is your goal. The more you move around, the more calorie you burn. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park in the furthest space from the supermarket, go for a walk at lunch so you can appreciate sites like this when the 🌞 shines🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️ ⬇️ All the little extra things you do across to week can make a BIG difference. "Little by little, a little becomes a lot." ⬇️ Over the last couple of months I've been questioning where my motivation was going to come from when it comes to training. I knew I wasn't happy with how I looked but more importantly with how I felt, both physically and mentally. ⬇️ I'd often compare my current self to a previous one, with how much I used to lift, how far I could run, how fit and strong I felt. I know how hard I had to work to achieve that former self, how many hours it took. And so I built it up in my head to be an insurmountable task to get there again. That mentality left me feeling more demotivated, I had even less desire to try to get back to that, and when I did try I'd beat myself up because I'm not at the level I once was. ⬇️ In reality a lot has changed since then. Your focus moves to other areas - relationships, family, work whatever it may be. And, if I can't be what I was before then why bother. Defeatist, right? Exactly. ⬇️ So, what's changed? I've stopped putting so much pressure on myself for a start and 10 days ago I decided to start a challenge that my Mum inspired me to do - The 21 Day Plank Challenge. What started out as only a couple of minutes has become nearer 5 a day. It sounds so little but a simple little change has made a big difference. I 're-discovered' that just doing something small each day can have a profound impact. After a few days I added in another exercise, and a few days later another. ⬇️ Realising that I don't have to beast myself in the gym for an hour, rather just a few minutes of hard work here and there has reinvigorated my desire to train. ❌The biggest mistake I made when I started trying to build muscle ❌ . Do you want to start building muscle, but you don’t really know how many workouts you should have every week? Then read on! . I used to believe that more was more, and would train 6 days per week at the gym and run on my rest day. In the beginning this worked and I was getting stronger, but it didn’t take long until I plateaued. Even worse, I felt like my body was getting less muscular instead of more😩 . Now that I know better I know that I was doing far more than I needed to, and that I would have probably had better results had I trained less. I was breaking down my muscles at a faster rate than I was building them up😳 . As a beginner, 3-4 days is plenty to get results. Lifting for 30minutes to an hour would send strong enough signals to your body to build muscles, while still letting you recover. . So learn from my mistakes and don’t overdo it. 💪🏼 . 👊🏼👯‍♀️🍑💪🏽 Leg day is not the best day for me. People tell me all the time to lift heavier to grow my legs. ALL I can say is PLEASE listen to your body before listening to what people tell you to do that don’t know your situation. I try to go heavy but I only do what my back allows me. Sometimes I do feel like I let my fear take over certain workouts at times. I have an herniated disc on my lower back. It usually causes me to have sciatica a lot, some times It effects my hip mobility, and some times it feels really tender and weak. When it’s too cold or raining my lower back seems to flare up. Sometimes depending if I hurt it or over do it more than I have to. I get a pinched nerve that goes from my lower back to my neck. There are days when being on my feet for a long period makes it hurt or sitting too long. No one understands until they truly have back problems. So lifting heavier for me doesn’t work. I can’t go knock leg day all nonchalant. I have been working on my over all body to be able to lift heavier. In able to do so I have to strengthen my core, my back and my grip. And stretch, Stretch, STRETCH them hip flexors and my lower back. You can’t just jump into doing legs likes it’s nothing. I’ve hurt myself doing that before or trusting my ego instead of my body and have gone crippled because of it. So PLEASE LISTEN 👂 to your body 💪🏽 and work on strengthening other parts of your body before jumping to danger. And hey this has been part of my leg day routine. And it burns.
